Jessner's Chemical Peel for All Skin Types

WHAT IS IT: A Jessner's peel combines 14 percent salicylic acid, 14 percent lactic acid and 14 percent resorcinol. This peel ships to you in a 30ml (1fl oz) glass amber bottle. This amount will provide 8-10 full face peels. This is a 1.2 pH medium-level peel designed for experienced users, and is suitable for most skin types. Jessner's peels have a great track record with darker skin types that normally don't respond well to peeling.

WHAT DOES IT DO: The salicylic acid in the Jessner's peel is responsible for dissolving the upper layer of the skin by breaking up keratin. Salicylic acid helps dissolve the dirt, sebum and debris in your pores that cause blackheads, enlarged pores and acne outbreaks. It also helps reduce oil production and provides gentle exfoliation.

The lactic acid in this peel stays on the surface of the skin where it provides exfoliation. Lactic acids have been used for centuries to renew skin tone and texture. You can find low concentrations of lactic acid in honey, papaya and citrus fruit. Lactic Acid is an Alpha Hydroxy acid that helps encourage cell turnover and stimulates collagen formation while helping to smooth and soften the skin.

Resorcinol provides antiseptic properties while helping to break up the glue that holds dead skin cells together. Resorcinol is widely used to professionally treat eczema, acne and other dermatological issues. Resorcinol is an effective exfoliator that helps loosen the damaged skin layers to expose the new fresh skin beneath while also stimulating collagen to form.

These ingredients combined effectively treat fine lines, acne, sun damage, dull skin, uneven complexion, rosacea, millia, age spots and superficial scarring.

HOW DO YOU USE IT: Chemical peels are applied in a thin layer across the skin and left on for 5-15 minutes. If frosting does not occur, an additional layer can be applied. The chemical peel is neutralized in a simple baking soda solution. Your chemical peel will include detailed step-by-step instructions including pre- and post-care instructions.

WHY USE AN AT-HOME JESSNER'S PEEL: If you're like most of my clients, you'd love to be able to look in the mirror and see clear, even toned, radiant skin, but you're unable or unwilling to pay for expensive treatments offered by spas and dermatology offices.
You owe it to yourself to see what a dramatic difference a Jessner's chemical peel can give you, not just on your face, but neck, chest and hands. This versatile peel has a proven track record of safety and great results. Jessner's peels done in a dermatology office cost an average of $300.00 per peel. On average, you'll require six courses to see optimal results.

PRECAUTIONS:Because it is closely related to Aspirin, there is a small chance of allergic reaction if you have an Aspirin allergy and you should choose a different peel.

WHAT TO EXPECT: The Jessner's Peel is a light to medium peel, the depth of which is controlled by the amount of time you leave it on your skin and the number of layers you use. Peeling can range from mild to moderate. There may be some redness right after the peel, but generally there is not much if any actual peeling.

OTHER INFORMATION: This is a very safe peel and is suitable for all skin types, especially those with oily or acne prone skin. Some darker skin tones, particularly African American run a small risk of post peel hyper or hypo pigmentation.
As with all products, a patch test is recommended to see how your skin reacts.

5 of 5 Jessners Peel March 29, 2020
Reviewer: Amy Perrone from Inverness, IL United States
I have been buying from Julie Simons/Skin Obsession for over 16 years. The Jessners peel is medical quality for an amazing price. The instructions she includes are crystal clear. I used to get this peel at the dermatologist so I knew what to expect and her instructions are right on. Very pleased with the product and I have referred her to many of my friends.

I am a licensed esthetician and this stuff is pretty much like the stuff the doctor has to order us. I was very very surprised especially with the price because usually you get what you pay for and when I use this it blew me away. This was just as good as the stuff we use and charge $100 a treatment for. And you can get six to eight peels out of this bottle!!

2 of 5 Disappointed May 29, 2019
Reviewer: Chi
Sadly, this peel disappointed me. I'm African-American, light-medium complexion, and battle hormonal acne and hyperpigmentation. I'm used to getting peels and self-administering, so I was looking forward to trying SO's Jessner's Peel for the 1st time.

I tried this peel 2ce before reviewing. The 1st time, I applied two layers and got slight frosting and  the usual pain. So I waited several weeks. Then I applied 4 layers and got a good frost. 3 days layer, I only got a bit of flaking Oh: there were 3 small burns near my nose similar to small shaving nicks. But I can tell that my skin texture is slightly smoother, hence the 2 stars. The hyperpigmentation barely budged.

I don't know whether to give the peel another try or try the TCA peel. But the Jessner is recommended for my skin type while the TCA isn't. I'm usually not one to complain and I LOVE giving good feedback -- on products I'm more than satisfied with. Unfortunately, the Jessner's Peel just isn't one of them.

Reply from Skin Obsession:
Hi Chi!
Hyperpigmentation is a stubborn skin problem that's tricky to address, particularly so in darker-skinned people. That being said, if you've reacted well to a patch test and the peel itself, but are only seeing mild differences, we recommend continuing treatments at the suggested intervals in order to reap the cumulative benefits chemical peels can offer.  Since an acid removes the outer layers of the skin, the effects of a peel become most apparent over time. If you do choose to opt for a stronger peel, remember to perform a thorough patch test if you register above a "3" on the Fitzpatrick Scale, in order to avoid potential complications.
